Naturmend is pleased to offer psychology services with psychologist Karyn Zuidhof. Karyn specializes in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, commonly known as CBT, is a therapeutic approach which focuses on assessing an individual’s thoughts and actions to facilitate change in their lives. Specifically, CBT views our feelings and behaviours as a direct result of our thoughts, rather than external stimulants such as people and events.

CBT differs from other psychology disciplines in that it requires the individual being treated to take an active role in their therapy. Using CBT techniques, Karyn will work with you so you can acquire the tools you need to think about yourself and the world in a more realistic way, allowing you to come to your own conclusions and make long-lasting changes resulting in a happier, less-stressful life where you feel a stronger sense of control.

Training for naturopathic doctors includes a degree in pre-medical sciences followed by four years of naturopathic medical training. There are seven accredited educational institutions in North America that provide naturopathic medical training. In order to obtain licensure in Canada or the US, ND’s must complete their education at one of these institutions along with standardized examinations.

Naturopathic doctors are trained in many natural modalities including: herbal medicine, nutrition, traditional Chinese medicine, physical medicine, homeopathy, orthomolecular therapy, and more. These methods are used to help each individual achieve a healthy state. The main goal is to support the body’s self healing mechanisms by first determining the underlying cause of illness and disease, rather than just treating symptoms.

Our Registered Clinical Counsellor, Lucinda Flavelle, specializes in parent consulting and coaching, individual psychotherapy, and couples counselling.

Sliding-scale discounted rates are available for clients who do not have extended health insurance for Registered Clinical Counsellors.

In parent consulting and coaching, you will be offered psycho-education on children’s developmental and attachment needs, an understanding of the positive contributions of tantrums and crying to the development of resilience in children, and 5 tools you can use to reduce challenging behaviours.

In individual psychotherapy, we address anxiety, depression, and addictions by attending to the unconscious and the relationship between mind and body. Jungian-oriented therapy restores psychological wholeness and mind-body approaches help to heal trauma.

In couples therapy, we address the couple's attachment styles, help the partners tolerate differences, teach repair, practice relationship skills, and learn about the brain and the role of the fight/flight/freeze response in relationships.

As a result of therapy, you will find yourself relieved of the burdens you were carrying, confident in your new way of being, and with a renewed sense of optimism and purpose about your life.
